About Washington Wine

Washington wines are the nation's second largest wine produce and is ranked among the world's top wine regions. Washington wines are found nationally in all 50 states and internationally in more than 40 countries. Washington wine varieties are 52 percent red to 48 percent white. Washington wine varieties grown include Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. However, there are also Gewurztraminer which do well in Washington, with excellent variety character and with a less-sweet style than their California counterpart.

Washington Wine Regions

The main Washington wine growing regions are Yakima Valley, Columbia Valley and Walla Walla Valley. The Yakima Valley has cool summer weather and long grow-ing season. It's not the biggest region, but it has more wineries than the Columbia Valley which is larger in size. Columbia Valley is the largest among the three and the Walla Walla Valley being the smallest with the least number of wineries. Most of Washington wine growing regions are situated in the East, where the climate is relatively dry.
